Job Summary:
The General Team Member supports the daily operations of Abundance Food Co-op across multiple departments, including Front End, Produce, and Grocery. This role provides flexible support where needed, ensuring excellent customer service, well-stocked shelves, fresh produce displays, and a clean, welcoming store environment. General Team Members contribute to creating a positive shopping experience rooted in cooperative values and sustainable, community-oriented food systems.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provides friendly, knowledgeable, and responsive customer service across departments.
- Assists customers with product questions, special requests, and locating items.
- Operates registers accurately; follow cash handling and POS procedures.
- Stocks grocery shelves; rotate products; check dates; maintain department conditions.
- Assists in produce receiving, trimming, culling, rotating, and building displays.
- Supports Front End responsibilities including bagging, cleaning, and customer flow.
- Maintains store cleanliness: sweeping, mopping, organizing, and ensuring safety.
- Help receive deliveries; break down pallets; restock backstock.
- Assists in basic merchandising: signage, product displays, and promotional sets.
- Ensures cooperative values and product standards are upheld (local, organic, fair).
- Follows all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety guidelines.
- Communicates department needs, concerns, and suggestions to supervisors.
- Participates in team meetings, trainings, and cooperative learning initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous retail, grocery, customer service, or food industry experience is a plus.
- Experience with POS systems helpful but not required.
- Training in food safety or produce handling is a plus.
- Cooperative or community-run store experience is helpful but not required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for long periods (6–8 hours).
- Ability to lift up to 40–50 pounds frequently.
- Repetitive motions: bending, reaching, lifting, twisting.
- Regular exposure to varying temperatures (coolers, produce cases).
- Ability to safely operate equipment such as box cutters, carts, and hand trucks.
Work Environment:
- Fast-paced grocery store environment.
- Work performed in multiple departments with changing daily needs.
- Exposure to coolers, freezers, wet floors, produce prep areas, and moderate noise.
- Frequent interaction with customers and team members.
