This play was inspired by a New York Times article in 2006 about increased immigration enforcement on small family-run farms in Elba, NY. The practice has escalated and the play is more relevant and necessary than ever. A play about love, friendship, and finding the power to face what divides us.

Character descriptions:

Bonnie: 27&34, white woman, a farmer who owns her own cabbage farm.

Carla: 23&30, Latinx woman, undocumented farmworker from Mexico.

Rosemary: 30’s, a PTA mom. (A “Karen”)

Gabe: 30’s, single unemployed father from a small town.

Lu: Any age, race, or gender. A nurse.

David: 30’s Bonnie’s husband, has terminal stomach cancer.

Officer Shirley Sender: Woman, any age or race. ICE agent.

Rich Parks: Any age, race, or gender. A state appointed defense lawyer.
