There are a wide range of advantages to riding your bike over driving your car, including many health, environmental, and financial benefits.
Bikes offer a clean method of transportation that require no fuel (except your own) and produce zero emissions. This commuting option is less taxing on our environmental resources and offers a sustainable method for navigating our community.
In addition to environmental benefits, riding your bike is an excellent way to move your body and get more exercise. According to research, cycling has been linked to greater leg strength, improved cardiovascular health, reduced stress and better joint health.
Riding your bike gives you the opportunity to go at your own pace and savor your surroundings. You can be more connected with nature, which has a positive impact on our mental well-being.
Bikes are cheaper to maintain than cars. They require no fuel or insurance and are easily stored. Repairs will cost you significantly less than car repairs.
To support bike-riding efforts, we have community organizations that provide its members with the tools and resources they need to become a more prolific rider.
One such organization is R Community Bikes, which happens to be the June Round Up Recipient at Abundance. They are doing incredible work to help the Rochester community be more active and sustain environmentally friendly practices. When you shop at Abundance, be sure to support their efforts by making a small donation at the register when you check out.
R Community Bikes is a 501(c)3 charitable corporation organized to collect, repair, and distribute bicycles. They offer bike education free of charge to children and adults in Rochester area and are improving lives one bike at a time.
RCB gives away over 2,000 FREE bicycles and completes over 3,000 repairs every year. They supply bicycles or repair services to dozens of community organizations, including church groups, youth centers, and neighborhood associations.
