September is going to be a busy, amazing month for the co-op. So much so, we are having a grand unveiling event on Saturday October 10th- but more on that later! We are super excited to be able to finally share with all of you what we have been planning! Hold on to your hats, it’s a doozy of a list!
Our goal for the Beautification Project is to develop the outside of the store to both inspire and educate co-op and community members.
THE BIG PROJECT
The exterior of the co-op is the first thing potential customers see as they walk or drive past. First impressions matter, the state of our building gives people an opinion of the business we are. If people do not like what they see from the outside, they often do not bother to wander inside- and we want them to come in and see all the amazing stuff we have INSIDE!
Not only is it important for new potential customers to be interested in shopping here, it’s important for our current shareholders and customers to have pride and confidence in our co-op as well!
Beautification Project 2020
1. Exterior Cleaning
We are starting off by having the exterior of the building cleaned – you may have noticed some dark patches growing on the outside of the building, we know this is distracting and takes away from all the fresh, organic, amazing food and products we have inside the co-op!
2. New Signage: Polymetal Signs
Three different (4′ x 6′) signs have been designed and approved for the front of the store, letting people know what they can expect inside the store (educating). These signs were designed to be easy to read for people quickly passing by. These signs are going to be installed in the three garden box spaces we have in front of the building, bonus- the spaces already have lights!
3. New Signage: Cafe Clings
Continuing with the idea to educate passer-bys with what we have in the co-op, the cling that has been designed and approved for our large window reads: ‘Fresh Food’. Below is a mocked up version.
4. Community Clean Sweep 2020 – Volunteer Event
Mark your Calendar, you’ve been wanting a chance to volunteer for the co-op, HERE’S YOUR CHANCE!
Saturday, September 19th we are in need of a volunteer Clean Up Crew, whose efforts will be used to beautify the outside of the co-op and around the neighborhood! Yes, you heard us correctly- A CHANCE TO VOLUNTEER!
We are so excited to be able to provide a service to the community by removing garbage and recylables from the neighborhood.

We are looking for 30-35 volunteers to come and help accomplish the following list of goals for the co-op:
GOALS FOR CO-OP
- Remove garbage and debris from around the co-op, recycle where applicable
- Weed: Clear sidewalks, parking lot, and around building
- Clear cement flower beds, save ivy to replant. Lower soil bed level to stop damage
- Wash exterior windows and doors
- Trim trees and bushes
GOALS FOR NEIGHBORHOOD
- Remove garbage (recycle where applicable) and debris from the streets and sidewalks (no private property) as marked out by the map below.

THE DETAILS
The Community Clean Sweep begins at 8AM and is scheduled to end at noon.
- Check in from 8:00 AM until 8:30 AM
- Greeting from the GM and Group photo (with your shirt!) at 8:35 AM
- Clean Up begins at 9AM
No checkins after 9AM, everyone associated with the event will be outside helping.
LIMITED EDITION SWAG
The first 35 individuals that register to volunteer receive a limited edition event tshirt! (PLEASE NOTE: OUR VOLUNTEER WINDOW IS CLOSED, WE HAVE REACHED OUR GOAL. THANK YOU!) You must attend the event to pick up your shirt. Volunteers will also be provided a light breakfast (coffee/juice and a danish/muffin) and as a bonus thank you, everyone will receive a 20% off coupon to the store (good until the end of October).
Shirts are Unisex Tees in Heather Military Green made by Bella + Canvas (4.2 oz., 52% airlume combed and ringspun cotton, 48% polyester) This is a mock up of the shirt that we ordered, once they come in we will update with better photographs.

To volunteer to be part of the Community Clean Up Crew, please use the form below, or email marketing@abundance.coop with your name, phone number, and a note of interest in Volunteering for the Clean Up Crew. You will be contacted to confirm details and will receive a confirmation email with all the finalized details once you are officially registered. We ask that all volunteers be at least 16 years of age.
PLEASE NOTE: We have very limited tools for gardening, and though we have tried reaching out to our local tool lending library, we are unable to get our hands on more as of right now. It would be amazing to have available volunteers that are able to bring in their own gardening gloves, and a spare tool or two for them to use. Rakes, Hoes, Hand Digging Tools, Pruners, etc. For those volunteers that will be picking up garbage and recyclables, we have plenty of gloves and bags.

5. Shawn Dunwoody Mural
We are so excited for this project. Since moving to this location, one of our long standing dreams has been for a mural. Something to inspire, to lift up, and to motivate. Abundance Food Co-op is turning our blank walls outside in to an inspiring mural, and we are reaching out to our community, shareholders, and shoppers to help make this happen!
The Mural begins getting painted Saturday September 26th, you can keep track on all the information about the mural here.
