Each month Abundance is highlighting a local project that benefits the city of Rochester, collecting funds for that project through donations made both at our registers (Round Up*) and through our website (Paypal).
This month the coop will be supporting Daystar Kids. Daystar is New York State’s only pediatric day-respite center, helping families successfully transition their infant or young child with special healthcare needs from the hospital to home and support their healthy development all the way until they enroll in kindergarten.

*Round Up is a program where shoppers can donate, or Round UP, to the cause of the month at the register when they are checking out with their groceries. This is done in the store. This year we started developing web pages for our collection drives and collecting money online for those various endeavors. We track all the money we make, and one hundred percent of the money is given to the charity/cause. Abundance shoppers and shareholders have been giving back to the community by rounding up their purchase totals since 2014!

MISSION To joyfully celebrate children with special healthcare needs and enrich their lives by promoting each child’s individual health care, developmental, and psychosocial goals in an encouraging atmosphere of their peers; and to strengthen and support their families.
VISION Daystar’s pioneering work to support children coping with complex healthcare needs and developmental challenges is an innovative best practices model for replication; effectively bridging the gap from inpatient care until children successfully transition into school-based services.
DAYSTAR Kids
Daystar’s award-winning center-based programs provide families with a comprehensive blend of coordinated support services to help their children overcome the limitations of their medical conditions and acquire the skills they need to fulfill their developmental, social and educational goals.
Children participate daily in the group early educational enrichment programs, receive early intervention therapies on-site, and have all their special healthcare needs attended to by Daystar’s collaborative and professional teams of special and early education teachers, related therapists and skilled pediatric nurses.
Founded in 1988 by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Rochester to address a critical gap in services to support families living at home with infants and young children with special healthcare needs. Today, Daystar is the vanguard for delivering family-centered, coordinated, pediatric subacute care. Daystar’s inclusive, encouraging learning environment and nurturing, social atmosphere recognizes each child’s individuality beyond the limits of their medical diagnosis and its innovative program has won accolades from New York State Office of Children and Family Services as a Best Practices Program & Environment. Daystar is an independent, charitable 501 (c) 3 organization.
