The Abundance Food Co-op Earth Day Grand Opening

It’s a very exciting time at Abundance Food Co-op! Our new home at 571 South Avenue in South Wedge will soon be open to for everyone to enjoy!

Earth Day is an important date for our co-op: it’s when we first opened in 2001 and it captures so many of the values that guide us as a grocery store with a focus on real, healthy, and sustainably sourced food.

It’s been two years since we announced our move to the South Wedge. Since then, we’ve talked with all the people that make up our co-op–owners, staff, shoppers, neighbors, and more–about our new store, how it will look, how it will feel, and what it will mean.

The 1970s saw a hopeful rebirth of food cooperatives across the United States, and the energy that became Abundance started then, too. Our new logo honors this legacy while also pointing towards the bright, colorful future we believe is possible for Rochester’s food co-op.

Rochester Earth Day Parade

The Rochester Earth Day Parade will kick off our Earth Day Grand Opening events as a celebration of our cooperative’s commitment to sustainability and making sure we don’t destroy our planet for generations to come.

The parade will gather at 9:00 am at Wadsworth Square (at the end of Marshall Street, off of Monroe Avenue). Step off is at 10:00 am.

Come support this inaugural Earth Day parade for Rochester so that we can create a new annual tradition to celebrate the many nonprofits and businesses here that are working to promote and safeguard more sustainable ways of living.

ROCWorthy Earth Fest

Live local music all day long!

Beginning with the ROCWorthy Earth Fest, we’re happy to host an eclectic lineup of local musicians performing on our new green space at the corner of South Avenue and Hamilton Street. We’ll have a nice mix of music that’s perfect for all ages, including a lineup curated by the folks over at WAYO.FM, a free-form, low-power station in Rochester, NY providing diverse and idiosyncratic arts and cultural programming.

Come and discover local at Rochester’s only food co-op!

Whether you know and love the sustainably sourced, healthy food we carry or you’ve never heard of us, our South Wedge Grand Opening will be a perfect time to discover our new store and everything that we have to offer.
