Produce Assistant Job Description

The Abundance Produce Department is now accepting applications for a part-time produce assistant to join our growing co-operative.

Position Summary:

To provide excellent customer service, maintain well-stocked produce displays, cull and rotate product, assist in placing orders, receiving deliveries, and maintaining cleanliness of the department.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Keep displays well-stocked, properly rotated and in good quality
  • Keep accurate records of shrink, transfers and invoices
  • Maintain cleanliness of prep and storage areas
  • Follow food safety practices
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Clean displays and prep and storage areas
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team 

 

Education & Preferred Experience

  • Previous retail/customer service experience
  • Working knowledge of organic and natural foods, especially produce
  • Available to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and some holidays
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds

Deli Assistant Position Available

Part-Time 20-24 hours per week  /  Future potential for Full-Time Status

The Deli Assistant performs customer service, food handling activities, receiving and work area maintenance within the deli department according to organizational standards.

Job requirements include:

  • Responds and attends to customer requests in the deli department within the store.
  • Responsible for various duties including preparing deli and bakery food items, weighing and wrapping various products, maintaining a clean and safe work environment and uphold communication within the department.
  • Exercise knowledge of proper food handling procedures and government regulations regarding food codes.
  • Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in the food service industry.
  • Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
  • Receives deliveries, checking for quality and premature expiration.
  • Manage product maintenance and rotation to avoid damages or spoilages.
  • Ability to work in a team as well as independently.
  • Ability to handle multiple demands, work under time pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work daytime and evening hours and weekends

1-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area preferred

Physical Demands – Standing, walking, reaching, bending, twisting, ability to carry/lift 50 lbs.

 

Education & Preferred Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of FDA Food Code
  • Proven experience working in an industrial kitchen
  • food service/restaurant experience is a plus
  • Possession of an appreciation for healthful food
  • Familiarity with vegan and vegetarian cooking
  • Ability to stay focused and positive under pressure
