A visit to a local orchard at the peak of the season is one of the best things about living in Western New York. But if you need more convincing than that, here are five rather wonderful reasons you might want to consider coming with us on our first Local Abundance Farm Tour on Sunday, October 9.
1. You get to meet the farmer behind Donovan Orchards.
You will get a personal talk and tour of the orchard from the farmer himself, Scott Donovan. It’s a great way to meet the person behind these delicious apples we sell.
2. You get an awesome, delicious lunch from the Abundance Deli.
After you’ve had some time to take in the beauty of the orchard, you’ll get to enjoy a scrumptious packed lunch from the Abundance Deli. We have a selection of some of our classic sandwiches, plus we can accommodate most food restrictions. See what’s on offer at the link below.
3. We get you there and back.
Barker, New York, is a little over an hour away from the co-op. Save on gas and keep that extra carbon out of the air by hitching a ride on us. All you need to do is get yourself to the co-op for 10:00 am on Sunday, Oct. 9.
4. BlackBird Cider is seriously excellent cider and you get to taste it.
Situated right on Donovan Orchards, BlackBird Cider Works is a cidery that has recently garnered a lot of attention from people who know a lot about hard cider. After lunch, you’ll have the chance to try their excellent range at a tasting right on the premises. What’s really special is that the cidery uses the apples that are grown right around it! Visit their website to learn more about them.
Please bear in mind that this is hard cider, so it is alcoholic. Everyone who wants to partake needs to be at least 21 years of age.
5. It’s a good chance to stock up on apples before the season ends.
A very important part of the tour is the opportunity to take some time to pick some apples. Check out the Donovan Orchards website to see which apples will be in season. They have a range of organic varieties, too.
